UPUA Passes Bill To Fund HUB Lawn WiFi Extenders

The 19th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) met for the first time in 2025 to pass several bills on Wednesday night.
After reports from the president and vice president and the swearing-ins of Panhellenic Representative Mary O’Connor, Latino Caucus Representative Judith Rojas, College of Education Representative Ayden Meise, and Disability Alliance Representative Reva Nallani, the assembly moved into new business.
New Business
First up was Bill #49-19: Throwback Thursday Phones Free Event. From noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, in the HUB, the Student Programming Association and UPUA will provide various activities to encourage students to take a break from technology. The events will include face painting, life-sized board games, painting stations, and more.
Bill #49-19 passed unanimously.
Next on the agenda was Bill #50-19: Funding for Environmental Justice Night. Starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, in the HUB’s Flex Theater, UPUA will host an event in an attempt to spread awareness on environmental justice. The event will include a panel of expert speakers followed by a game of bingo.
Bill #50-19 passed unanimously.
Following this was Bill #51-19: Purchasing of HUB Lawn WiFi Extenders. Since HUB Lawn is a popular space for students to gather during nice weather, UPUA plans to install three wireless access points in order to improve the internet connection on both the patio and lawn of the HUB.

The next vote was on Resolution #14-19: Support for More Bicycle Racks Around Campus. In order to encourage more biking around campus, the UPUA wishes to improve the current biking infrastructures around Penn State’s campus. The plan includes increasing the number of bike racks, renovating current bike racks in bad condition, and ensuring all bike racks on campus are user-friendly.
Resolution #14-19 passed unanimously.
To wrap up new business, the assembly discussed Resolution #15-19: Support for Schreyer Honors College Student Representation in Penn State’s Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate consists of both faculty and student members. Since the Faculty Senate deliberates on issues relating to the Honors College, UPUA stated its support for the inclusion of a representative from Schreyer Honors College.
Resolution #15-19 passed unanimously.
