Nittany Lions In The NFL: Championship Weekend Roundup

Championship weekend in the NFL has ended, with some former Penn State football players leaving their marks on the game and etching their names in the history books. With several Penn State players making the Super Bowl, this extends a streak of consecutive Super Bowl appearances for Penn State football players spanning back to Super Bowl XLV.

Let’s see how these Nittany Lions performed on Sunday.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Running back Saquon Barkley shined bright again in the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders. Barkley exploded for 118 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 15 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown on the Eagles’ first play from scrimmage. Barkley also put the game entirely out of reach with a four-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 48-23.

Barkley also had one reception that gained four receiving yards on the day, bringing him to over 120 total yards. This game marks Barkley’s fifth straight game with 100+ rushing yards, marking his longest streak of the season.

Barkley and the Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 9.

Austin Johnson, Buffalo Bills

Defensive tackle Austin Johnson had a solid game as he recorded three tackles in the Bills’ 32-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

Johnson also had one tackle for loss, marking the fourth time this season that he recorded the stat.

Daquan Jones, Buffalo Bills

Defensive tackle Daquan Jones contributed in the Bills’ AFC Championship game against the Chiefs as he recorded one assisted tackle. Jones recorded at least one tackle in all three of Buffalo’s playoff games this year.
