Report: Former Penn State Football Analyst Robb Smith Named Rutgers Co-Defensive Coordinator

Penn State football offensive analyst and analytics coordinator Robb Smith is set to become the co-defensive coordinator and defensive play-caller for Rutgers, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday morning.

Smith spent the last two years with the Penn State coaching staff as an analyst and helped call the defense in the 2024 Peach Bowl after former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz took the head coaching job at Duke.

Smith has twice served as Rutgers’ defensive coordinator, first in 2012 and then from 2020 to 2021. Smith has bounced between roles at several college, though rarely serving on the offensive side of the ball, over his professional career that began in 1999 with Iowa as a graduate assistant.
