‘I Love Rince Na Leon More Than Myself’: An Ode To Rince Na Leon At THON 2025

“You don’t know about real loss, ’cause it only occurs when you’ve loved something more than you love yourself. And I doubt you’ve ever dared to love anybody that much,” the wise Sean Maguire once said in “Good Will Hunting.”

Well, Sean, I love Rince Na Leon more than myself, and now they’re gone. So what now?

I mean, how could you not instantly fall in love, though? Rince Na Leon, the Pennsylvania State University’s first and only Irish dance club, showcased resilience many can only dream of right from the jump. THON attempted to play its first song “Maria” by Justin Bieber multiple times before it actually played in full.

The brave girls of Rince Na Leon didn’t care. They remained strong and in the center of the stage with the warmth of the spotlight raining down on them, unfazed.

Another moment of brilliance came at the real start of the show. The expected starting lineup quickly swapped out for other girls waiting on the side, who many didn’t even realize were there until the music started. These were no bench warmers, though, let me tell you.

From there, Rince Na Leon displayed elite-level footwork only rivaled by Demetrious “Mighty-Mouse” Johnson.

This was no typical footwork display from an Irish Dance Team, though. Accustomed to the average starting five formation or even the solo act, I was taken aback by the sheer number of talented dancers on the stage. Now, I am no math major, but there were at least 15 all in sync throughout the entire dance.

Through songs like “Baby” by Bieber and “Eenie Menie” by Sean Kingston, they quickly took all the attention from the crowd. A very difficult feat this deep into THON.

THON is not easy, especially with the continued diversity of the acts. But I know, deep down, if Rince Na Leon performed for 46 hours straight, I could do this without a second thought.
