Staff Picks: Dream Dancer Meals

With all the dancing, singing, and standing THON dancers do over the 46 hours, it’s safe to assume they build up quite the appetite. While you can’t go wrong with chips and a simple sandwich, some dancer meals leave much to be desired considering the required herculean effort that is to remain standing for almost two entire days straight.

Our staffers shared what their ideal dancer meal would be if they were feeling famished on the floor of the BJC, seeking a boost in both satiation and morale.

Joe Lister: Philly Cheesesteak With Extra Whiz & Extra Onion

Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is a stereotypical “outside-of-Philly” selection. However, if I were on my feet for 46 hours, I would want the most disgusting slop of a cheesesteak on a plate in front of me. Screw the greens, I’m trying to drown in cheese whiz and fried onions. I want to smell the onions coming from a mile away, too.

Cooper Cazares: Big Dean’s Hot Chicken

Nothing wakes you up more than three beautiful Nashville hot chicken tenders. Think of it as smelling salts for your taste buds. Add a lemonade and some ranch and any dancer could conquer the 46 hours with ease.

Cadyn Gill: Chipotle Bowl

Those who know me, know how near and dear Chipotle is to my heart. At a minimum, I visit the establishment twice a week, if not more. My go-to bowl consists of brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, double chicken, corn salsa, and a ton of lettuce to top it off. I would like to think all of the whole foods in my bowl would give me a perfect mix of protein, healthy carbohydrates, and essential nutrients to power through the 46 hours. Get me a Diet Dr. Pepper to drink alongside my bowl and I’d be unstoppable.

Nolan Wick: Sushi

Sushi is light, but filling and refreshing. It’s the kind of meal that will make you feel full without crashing, which is the kind of balance I’d want if I were dancing. It’s also an item that’s hard to afford as a college student, so all the better.

Fernando Martinez: Steak & Salad

My dream meal for THON would be a nice cut of steak like a ribeye along with a healthy salad. Since my favorite food is steak, I would love the opportunity to eat that for dinner instead of pasta. Also, I need to make sure that I need something healthy to go along with the steak. That’s why I need a salad. My favorite food along with a healthy salad and I’m all set.

Kyra Birmingham: Chicken Fried Steak

Not just any chicken fried steak, it has to be from Omaha Steaks and served with scrumptious white gravy.
