Report: Abdul Carter Has Stress Fracture In Right Foot & Could Need Surgery

Update, 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, February 27:

Following Wednesday night’s reports that Abdul Carter could need surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot, that possibility of surgery seems unlikely, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Carter plans to work out at Penn State’s Pro Day without subjecting himself to surgery.

Orginal post:

Former Penn State football star defensive end and potential No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Abdul Carter could need surgery for a stress fracture in his right foot discovered at the NFL Combine, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Carter was already set to skip workouts at the combine due to a shoulder injury.

Per Rapoport, Carter could have surgery on the foot and be cleared to play. Alternatively, he could compete in the combine to prove to NFL teams that he’s healthy.

“Either way, we don’t expect this to impact where he is drafted,” Rosenhaus said, per Rapoport. “After visiting with teams this week, I believe he’s going to be the No. 1 overall pick.”

Carter was originally cleared to participate at Penn State’s Pro Day on March 28 in the leadup to the NFL Draft. With this update, it’s not certain if that will change.
