What To Do In Philly Over Spring Break

The semester is halfway over, folks.
Like it or not, spring break is officially here. Many Penn State students will be flocking to tropical locations like Cancun or Fort Lauderdale, but others will be returning to their cherished hometowns. For many Penn Staters, that hometown is in and around Philadelphia.
In case you don’t have any plans in Philly already over break, we’ve compiled a list of things to do in the City of Brotherly Love.
Sports
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers are somehow the better of the two teams playing at the Wells Fargo Center this season, with a “middle of the road” record following the break. The team has a full slate of games at home during Penn State’s spring break, with tickets available online.
- Philadelphia Flyers vs. Seattle Kraken – 12:30 p.m. on March 8
- Philadelphia Flyers vs. New Jersey Devils – 1 p.m. on March 9
- Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators – 7 p.m. on March 11
- Philadelphia Flyers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7 p.m. on March 13
- Philadelphia Flyers vs. Carolina Hurricanes – 7 p.m. on March 15
Philadelphia 76ers
To put it bluntly, the Sixers stink this year. It’s not all bad though, because now that Joel Embiid is out for the season, there’s basically never been a cheaper time to go to a Sixers game. Some tickets are even on sale for under $5 on the secondary market.
- Philadelphia 76ers vs. Utah Jazz – 7:30 p.m. on March 9
- Philadelphia 76ers vs. Indiana Pacers – 7 p.m. on March 14
Philadelphia Union
If you’re a Phillies fan who is upset they got rid of their Dollar Dog Night promotion, listen up. The Union is hosting its own Dollar Dog Night on March 16 when Nashville SC comes to town. Tickets are available on the Union’s website.
Festivals and Events
PHS Philadelphia Flower Show
Philadelphia’s world-famous flower show will run at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City through Sunday, March 9. The show has been an annual tradition since 1829, with major floral displays, food and drink, and live performances.
Women’s History Month In Old City
The Betsy Ross House, located near the Liberty Bell in Old City, is celebrating Women’s History Month with a series of special talks and tours throughout March. Just down the road at the Museum of the American Revolution, there are special performances and talks to celebrate the month.
‘Body Worlds: Vital’ At The Franklin Institute
The Franklin Institute’s latest special exhibit showcases the wonders of the human body by showing off, as they put it, “vivid full-body plastinates” and “real human specimens.” It might not be for everyone, but if it interests you, tickets are available online.
Arts & Entertainment
‘Swan Lake’ At The Academy Of Music
The famed ballet “Swan Lake” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is running at the Academy of Music with multiple shows throughout the week of spring break. Tickets are still available on the Academy of Music’s website.
Noël Coward’s ‘Hay Fever’ At The Walnut Street Theatre
If you’re looking for a comedy stage performance rather than a ballet, head to the Walnut Street Theatre for a performance of “Hay Fever.” Act fast though, this show is only running through March 9. Tickets are for sale online.
WWE SmackDown
If you’re a fan of wrestling, hurry home after your Friday classes. WWE is bringing its SmackDown event to the Wells Fargo Center at 7:30 p.m. on March 7. Tickets are available online.
