Former Penn State Men’s Soccer Forward Liam Butts Called Up To Guyana Senior National Team

Former Penn State men’s soccer player Liam Butts secured his first call up to Guyana’s senior national team ahead of the team’s two-leg matchup with Guatemala in CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifiers.
Butts played in 72 total games and started 53 for the Nittany Lions spanning from 2019 to 2024. He scored 25 goals and assisted eight more in his tenure. Butts scored nine goals in his first season at Penn State in 2019-20, which tied for the team lead.
The Lawrenceville, Georgia, native secured a plethora of awards throughout his time in Happy Valley. Butts earned an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and a place on the Big Ten All-Freshmen Team in his first season. In his senior season, Butts was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. He also collected Academic All-Big Ten honors in his final four seasons as a Nittany Lion.
Butts was drafted to the San Jose Earthquakes in 2022 and signed an MLS Next Pro contract with the New England Revolution II in 2024, where he’s recorded five goals in 13 games.
