Former Penn State Football Defensive End Smith Vilbert Transfers To North Carolina

Bill Belichick has entered the chat.

Former Penn State football defensive end Smith Vilbert has transferred to North Carolina, he announced Wednesday. Vilbert reportedly entered the transfer portal on February 25.

The 2025 season will be Vilbert’s seventh year of college football. Vilbert arrived at Penn State in 2019 and redshirted that season. He then played in 17 games over the next three seasons before suffering a season-ending season prior to the 2023 season.

Vilbert had a backup role in 2024. He played in 16 games and recorded 12 total tackles, four for a loss, and 1.5 sacks. Vilbert had 20 tackles, eight for a loss, and 4.5 sacks over his six-year career with the Nittany Lions.

Vilbert originally announced his intention to return to Penn State shortly after the Orange Bowl Loss in January.
