Which Famous Actors Would Play Penn Staters In A Movie?

What if Penn State was featured on the silver screen?

Whether it’s a film about Carter Starocci’s historic five-peat or Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s national championship run while battling cancer, there are many movie-worthy storylines at Penn State. If a major studio did want to turn one of these tales into a film, who do you think would portray famous Nittany Lions?

We decided to compile a list of famous Penn Staters and decide who we thought would be best to play them in a feature movie.

Katie Schumacher-Cawley, Played By Jennifer Garner

Women’s volleyball head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley arguably has the most movie-worthy story of anyone on this list. During her battle with cancer, she led the Penn State women’s volleyball team to a national championship and completed chemotherapy in two months. Casting a well-liked actress like Jennifer Garner would make a lot of sense.

Guy Gadowsky, Played By Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer Sutherland isn’t an exact doppleganger of Penn State’s men’s hockey coach Guy Gadowsky, but the two are similar-looking, and both happen to hail from Canada, which would make it easy for Sutherland to replicate Gadowsky’s accent.

James Franklin, Played By Keegan-Michael Key

This is a given, but if there was ever a movie about James Franklin, he would obviously be portrayed by Keegan-Michael Key. Key has played Franklin in the past in some short-form skits for the Big Ten Network, so this was a gimme.

Molly Countermine, Played By Sigourney Weaver

Penn State’s most famous professor/singer Molly Countermine would make for an interesting film. We believe Sigourney Weaver would be a fitting actress to portray Countermine in a film about her double life here at State College.

Carter Starocci, Played By Shameik Moore

As the first and likely only person who will ever be a five-time NCAA champion in wrestling, it wouldn’t be shocking to see an inspiring sports movie made about Starocci. While Shameik Moore is primarily known for his voice work as Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse,” he does have live-action acting experience and possesses the confidence and aura needed to play a personality like Starocci.

Neeli Bendapudi, Played By Freida Pinto

Best known for her work on “Slumdog Millionaire,” Freida Pinto would be a great pick to portray Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi in a movie. They were both born in India, and even though Pinto is slightly younger than Bendapudi, she could provide an accurate portrayal.

Drew Allar, Played By Tom Holland

If Tom Holland put on a little bit more weight and worked out like a football player, I actually think he would look pretty similar to Drew Allar. He is British, but has proven in many of his films that he can do a wide variety of American accents.

Nolan Wick, Played By Morgan Freeman

Onward State staffer Nolan Wick would obviously be portrayed by Morgan Freeman in a movie. While they may not physically resemble one another, only an actor like Freeman has the poise and grace to accurately portray someone like Wick.
