Julian Fleming Bringing Dependable Hands & Size To NFL Draft

After just one year in Happy Valley, wide receiver Julian Fleming is heading to the NFL Draft.

Fleming spent the first four years of his collegiate career at Ohio State before transferring to Penn State prior to the 2024 season. When he transferred, Fleming was ranked as the sixth-best wide receiver and No. 32 of all players in the portal.

The Catawissa, Pennsylvania, native appeared in 16 games for the Nittany Lions this past season. Fleming hauled in 14 receptions for 176 receiving yards during his lone year with the blue and white.

Fleming was a highly touted prospect coming out of Southern Columbia High School. The 247Sports Composite rankings viewed him as a five-star talent and the No. 1 receiver recruit in the country during the 2020 recruitment cycle.

Throughout his tenure with the Buckeyes, he accounted for 963 receiving yards on 79 receptions in four seasons. Fleming was part of a crowded wide receiver room in Columbus and dealt with a myriad of injuries during his freshman and sophomore seasons.

At 6’2″ and 205 pounds, Fleming brings power and size to the perimeter. While he doesn’t possess the vertical speed necessary to threaten defenses down the field, he does boast a good catch radius to go along with his wide frame.

Fleming demonstrated quality ball skills throughout his collegiate career, dropping six passes on 125 career targets. Many of his receptions came in the intermediate pass game and tended to be contested due to his lackluster separation as a route runner.

“When the ball is in the air, Fleming’s skill set shines. [He] uses size extremely well to wall off defenders at a variety of depths and has no issue playing above the rim to snatch passes out of the air,” Draft Network analyst Ryan Fowler said.

Although he was not invited to the NFL Combine, he did test at Penn State’s Pro Day. The fifth-year pass catcher ran a 4.68 in the 40-yard dash and boasted a 10’3” broad jump. He also participated in the three-cone drill, short shuttle, and individual workouts in front of NFL scouts.

Fleming would benefit from a rotational role at the professional level. So far, he has garnered interest from the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Baltimore Ravens. He will need to compete for snaps at wide receiver wherever he ends up this April.

The NFL Draft will be held at Lambeau Field and begins at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, ending on Saturday, April 26. All seven rounds will be televised on ESPN and the NFL Network.
