Police, Alpha Fire Company, and Centre Life EMS responded to the male, according to a release, at 7:17 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1500 block of University Drive. The man had encountered an active electric current while trying to put out a mulch fire and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Severe storms hit State College and central Pennsylvania on Tuesday, downing trees and knocking out power for tens of thousands of residents. Residents have been instructed not to touch or come into contact with downed power lines.
