Former Penn State Hoops Assistant Keith Urgo Hired As Gonzaga College High School Head Coach

Former Penn State men’s basketball assistant coach Keith Urgo has reportedly been hired as D.C.-area Gonzaga College High School’s head coach, per Washington Post high school sports insider Emmett Siegel.
Urgo graduated from Gonzaga in 1997 before taking his first coaching job as an assistant at his alma mater from 2004-07. He then moved on to an assistant role at Villanova from 2010-12 before landing at Penn State from 2012-21 for the longest-tenured portion of his career.
After a decade in Happy Valley, Urgo departed from the program in lieu of an associate head coaching position with Fordham in the 2021-22 season before taking full reins of the Rams from 2022-25. He won Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors in 2023. He was fired in March after the Rams finished last in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-15 conference record in 2024-25.
Urgo now takes control of the No. 8-ranked basketball program in the nation and No. 1 in the D.C. area, per MaxPreps’ high school basketball rankings.
