Lady Lions Hire Shenise Johnson As Assistant Coach

Penn State women’s basketball has hired former Miami assistant coach Shenise Johnson to be an assistant coach under head coach Carolyn Kieger, the team announced Tuesday.
This addition comes after former Lady Lions assistant coach Daniel Barber left in April to become the assistant coach at Arizona State.
Johnson played college basketball at the University of Miami from 2008-12 when Kieger served as an assistant coach for the Canes. During that time, she became the third top-scorer in team history and was a two-time All-American.
After that, Johnson went to the WNBA, where she was drafted with the No. 5 overall pick by the San Antonio Stars in the 2012 WNBA Draft. She played in the WNBA for nine seasons, spending three seasons with the Stars and five with the Indiana Fever, before finishing her career with the Minnesota Lynx in 2020. Before she retired, she played overseas in Slovakia, Israel, and Turkey.
Johnson returned to Miami, where she was the Coordinator of Player Development for the Canes in 2020-21 before being hired as an assistant coach ahead of the 2022 season. During her three seasons with Miami, she helped the team to an Elite Eight appearance in 2023 while developing four All-ACC Team members.
Now, she will try to help a Lady Lions team that struggled last season as it finished 10-19 and won only one game in Big Ten play.
