Penn State Hoops Alumni ‘The Happy Valley Hoopers’ Team Set To Compete In ‘The Basketball Tournament’

For the third consecutive year, Penn State will be represented in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), a $1 million winner-take-all summer tourney.

The Happy Valley Hoopers, a Penn State basketball alumni team organized by 2022 graduate John Harrar, will compete in the tournament once again. This year’s roster consists of Penn State alums such as Andrew Funk (2022-23), Dallion Johnson (2020-23), Greg Lee (2021-22), John Harrar (2017-22), Izaiah Brockington (2019-21), Myreon Jones (2018-21), Jamari Wheeler (2017-21), Trent Buttrick (2017-21), Curtis Jones (2019-20) and Mike Watkins (2016-20). More players are expected to join the roster in the coming weeks.

The Happy Valley Hoopers, the top seed in their region, will play in the James Madison Regional, opening play against the Raleigh 919 Legends at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 18. The winner will go on to face the winner of Founding Fathers (James Madison alumni) and NXT ERA Elite at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. The James Madison Regional championship game is set for Tuesday, July 22, at 7 p.m.

If the Happy Valley Hoopers win the James Madison Regional, they will move on to face the winner of the West Virginia Regional in the quarterfinals at 9 p.m. on Monday, July 28. The semifinals and the championship game will be on July 31 and August 3, with an official time and location to be determined.

The Happy Valley Hoopers will look to continue last year’s success as the Penn State alumni squad won the Pittsburgh Regional last summer to advance to the TBT quarterfinals in just their second year competing in the tournament. You can catch all of the TBT action live on the FOX Networks.
