Penn State Women’s Volleyball Star Maggie Mendelson To Join Lady Lions

What can’t she do?

Penn State women’s volleyball middle blocker Maggie Mendelson is set to also suit up for the women’s basketball team, the team announced Wednesday.

Mendelson, who will continue playing volleyball, had 242 kills and 146 blocks last season, playing a key role in Penn State’s run to a national title.

Prior to transferring to Penn State, Mendelson spent two years at Nebraska and also played basketball her freshman year, going for two points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 22 outings. Her first game that season came on December 18, after the conclusion of the volleyball season.

At 6’6″, Mendelson was ESPN’s No. 32 basketball prospect in the country in the class of 2022 and has experience with USA youth national teams in both basketball and volleyball.

The Nittany Lions haven’t seen a two-sport athlete since the 2018-19 season, when Mac Hippenhammer played football and baseball.
