Penn State Football Standouts Drew Allar, Nick Singleton, & Kaytron Allen Named To Maxwell Award Watch List

Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen were named to the Maxwell Award watchlist, the organization announced on Monday.

The Maxwell Award, first handed out in 1937, is given annually to the nation’s most outstanding college football player. The award is named after Robert Maxwell, a former player at the University of Chicago. Since its inception, seven Nittany Lions have won the award: Larry Johnson, Kerry Collins, Chuck Fusina, John Cappelletti, Mike Reid, Glen Ressler, and Richie Lucas.

Singleton and Allen are entering their fourth season with Penn State after both forgoing the NFL draft in hopes of a better end to the season in 2025. Both running backs have a shot at breaking the career rushing record at Penn State this season. Singleton has rushed for 2,912 career yards and needs 1,021 to break Evan Royster’s record. While Allen, who has 2,877 career rushing yards, needs 1,056.

Allar also enters his fourth year as a Nittany Lion as one of the best returning quarterbacks in the country. The Medina, Ohio, native threw for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns a season ago and has a largely upgraded receiving core this season.

Last season, both Singleton and Allar made the watchlist, but with the addition of Allen in 2025, the Nittany Lions lead the country with three players on the list.
