Transfer Portal Roundup: Week 0

College football is back, folks.

Saturday marked the first time in 215 days that two teams faced off in good old college football. With the first five games gone, two former Penn State players had the opportunity to play with their new teams.

Here’s how they did.

JB Nelson: Kansas State

The first Nittany Lion to play was offensive lineman JB Nelson for Kansas State. The Wildcats took on the Iowa State Cyclones in the annual Aer Lingus Classic in Dublin, Ireland. Nelson started for Kansas State and helped them record 110 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Wildcats also threw for another two touchdowns as the play of Nelson and others on the offensive line allowed just one sack on quarterback Avery Johnson in the 24-21 loss.

Keyvone Lee: UNLV

Keyvone Lee, the former Penn State running back, also got a chance to show his ability for the Mountain West side UNLV against Idaho State. In classic Dan Mullen, UNLV head coach, style, there were over 1000 yards of total offense in the game. Despite this, Lee saw the ball just six times, once through the air for a loss of one yard, and five times on the ground for five yards.

Lee left the Nittany Lions after his sophomore season in 2022 to join Mississippi State. He left the Bulldogs following just four appearances in the 2024 season.
