Student Farm & Lion’s Pantry Partner Up With ‘Feed The People Market Stand’

The Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm is partnering with Lion’s Pantry to offer a pay-what-you-can farm stand on campus this fall. The “Feed the People Market Stand” has fresh farm-to-table produce available for all and will help students eat healthier this semester without breaking the bank.

Located in the main lounge of the HUB, the stand will be in operation every Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. until November 1.

No payment is required for the produce, but customers can pay what they are able, or make donations to the farm through cash, check, or LionCash.

The produce sold will depend on what is seasonally available, but customers can expect a variety of fresh items, including tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, herbs, and more.

The project aims to help alleviate food insecurity on campus and enable students to eat nutritiously despite financial constraints.

“We know our pay-what-you-can farm stand cannot be the only food insecurity solution at Penn State, but it serves as a symbol to the work that needs to be done to ensure consistent access to basic needs,” Jimmy Alamia, an organizer of the project, said.

The university hopes that this partnership will further its mission to alleviate concerns surrounding food across the community.
