Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Three Roundup

Another week of NFL action has come and gone, and Penn State alumni have yet again made their mark across the league. As Penn State enjoyed its bye week, all attention was on the Nittany Lions in the NFL.

Let’s take a look at how some notable former Penn Staters did in week three.

Abdul Carter, New York Giants

The Giants’ number three pick faced off against the reigning AFC champs on Sunday Night Football. The rookie racked up his first tackle for loss of the year, finishing with four tackles and a QB hit in his third-ever game. Despite the effort, the Giants fell to 0-3 after a 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts

The former All-American had a solid game following his rookie of the week performance in week two. He hauled in three catches for 38 yards in the Colts’ 41-20 win over their division rival, the Tennessee Titans. Warren is tied with Michael Pittman Jr. as the Colts’ receiving yards leader through three weeks of play, picking up right where he left off at Penn State.

Micah Parsons, Green Bay Packers

Parsons had a quiet day against the Browns. The former first-rounder racked up just two tackles in a disappointing 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

Saquon Barkley didn’t light up the stat sheet this week, but played a key part in the Eagles’ big comeback win. The All-Pro rushed for 46 yards on 18 attempts and reeled in another nine yards receiving. Even with the lack of numbers, Barkley’s team was able to get it done against the Rams in a rematch of last year’s Divisional Round. The Eagles advance to 3-0 after a 33-26 win.

Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

The former second-round tight end had himself a day in an AFC South matchup against the Houston Texans. Strange caught six balls on seven targets and had a team-leading 61 receiving yards in a big 17-10 win for the Jaguars. He now leads the team in receiving through three weeks of play.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars

Multiple Penn State alumni played their part in the Jaguars’ win, as Parker Washington had a solid performance. The former Nittany Lion receiver had a team-leading 11 targets, catching four of them for 34 yards.

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

The former Penn State receiver and current Saints tight end continued his strong season in week three. Johnson caught six balls on eight targets for 51 yards in a 44-13 loss to the Seahawks.

Jaquon Brisker, Chicago Bears

The Bears’ safety had a good outing on Sunday with three tackles and a pass defended on the stat line for the former second-team All-American. His presence played a role in the Bears’ big 31-14 win over the Cowboys, giving Chicago its first win of the season.

Ji’Ayir Brown, San Francisco 49ers

The 2022 Penn State team MVP had a good outing in the 49ers divisional matchup against the Cardinals. Brown collected four tackles in an exciting 16-15 win. The 49ers move to 3-0 and are now in complete control over the NFC West.

Miles Sanders, Dallas Cowboys

Sanders made the most out of a split workload on Sunday. He tallied up 53 all-purpose yards on 12 touches and had 4.6 yards per carry. This effort wasn’t quite enough for the Cowboys to win as they fell 31-14 to the Bears and go to 1-2 on the season.

Other Notable Alumni Performances

  • Arnold Ebiketie had two tackles in the Falcons’ loss to the Panthers.
  • Safety Nick Scott recorded two solo tackles for the Panthers in a win over the Falcons.
  • Pat Freiermuth caught a ball for six yards in the Steelers’ 21-14 road win against the Patriots.
  • Bengals Tight end Mike Gesicki had one catch on three targets for six yards in a loss to the Vikings.
  • Eagles wideout Jahan Dotson recorded a catch for seven yards in a victory versus the Rams.
