Staff Picks: Vending Machines We Want To See In The HUB

About a month ago, a Sephora vending machine appeared in the lower level of the HUB, drawing considerable attention from students and resulting in numerous social media posts on TikTok and Instagram. Due to the popularity, we asked our staffers what kind of vending machines they would like to see in the HUB next.

Alex Wilczynski: Insomnia Cookies Vending Machine

How could you ever go wrong with a cookie machine? Imagine this: it’s 11 p.m. and you’re cramming for tomorrow’s exam, and suddenly the craving hits. A warm, fresh, COOKIE. The hero we never knew we needed, but always dreamed of having. Personally, I am a huge fan of any cookie and dessert in general. Stocking a vending machine with cookie paradise can help keep students fueled, happy, and just a little less stressed than we all already are. Honestly, nothing says “college survival” more than a box of cookies at the push of a button.

Kayla Wakeley: Ulta Vending Machine

As someone who loves all things makeup, I was thrilled when I saw the Sephora vending machine pop up. Unfortunately, my wallet wasn’t quite as excited. An Ulta vending machine would be a much better fit for college students since it carries more affordable brands and everyday essentials. Having that mix of drugstore and high-end options would make beauty products way more accessible for students on campus while still giving us plenty of variety to choose from.

Brandon Hurley: LEGO Vending Machine

Why LEGOs? LEGOs are by far one of the single greatest things humanity has ever created, and with that, I would want easy access on campus. There aren’t a whole lot of shops to buy LEGOs from in general, which is the prime reason why this would be an amazing market for everyone. #LEGOsinthehub.

Olivia Hess: Chick-fil-A Vending Machine

If we can’t have a permanent location in the HUB anymore, at least a vending machine could give us momentary bliss. I don’t know how it would work logistically, but just imagine how easy it would be to grab a six-count nugget with Chick-fil-A sauce on your way to class. I wish.

Jack Anderson-Jussen: Energy Drink Vending Machine

As someone who LOVES energy drinks, I find myself searching for places that sell them. While I’m aware many of the on-campus markets sell Celsius, I personally don’t like those much. Personally, I much prefer Redbull, Monster, or my personal favorite, C4. If the university were able to install a vending machine catering to those brands, I, for one, would be lined up ready to buy them, and I think there’s a good chance other students would be as well.

Kennedy Jones: Alani Nu Vending Machine

State College is like a black hole for Alani’s. No matter how many times I go to any store downtown, or even the Target off campus, I can’t seem to find the exact drink that I want at that moment. Since the drink seems to be that popular amongst Penn State students, I feel like having a vending machine in the HUB would solve that problem. Making sure it’s stocked with fan favorite flavors like cotton candy and witches’ brew would be such a great way to keep students energized.

Julia Romankow: Krispy Kreme Vending Machine

This might be a controversial opinion, but I am not the biggest fan of the donuts from Duck Donuts or Dunkin’. I personally prefer a sweet, donut that’s covered in icing and sprinkles. I just feel like it can be difficult to find a good donut in State College, and having a Krispy Kreme vending machine in the HUB would solve that issue. After a long day, a warm donut would be the perfect thing for any student to treat themselves with.
