Penn State Football Unranked In Week Seven AP Poll

Penn State football is unranked in the week seven AP Poll after losing to UCLA 42-37 on Saturday. It’s the first time the Nittany Lions, who received 97 votes, are unranked since week two of 2022.

Penn State traveled to Los Angeles for an all too familiar story to unfold against UCLA. The Nittany Lions started slow and found themselves down 27-7 at halftime despite being 24.5-point favorites pregame.

A second-half comeback attempt fell short when Drew Allar was taken down for a loss of three on 4th-and-two on the UCLA 9-yard line.

Penn State is now 3-2 through five games of the 2025 season and 0-2 in the Big Ten after back-to-back losses in conference.

The last time the Nittany Lions did not have a Power Four win by October 10 was in the 2020 season. Their first game was on October 24 that year. If you don’t include the COVID-19 season, 2010 was the last time Penn State failed to beat a Power Four team through the first week of October.

In 2010, the Nittany Lions also started the season ranked, but ended up losing five games and finishing the season outside of the top 25.

Left on the schedule for Penn State is No. 1 Ohio State on November 1 and No. 7 Indiana on November 8. The Nittany Lions most likely have to win out if they want a shot at the College Football Playoff.

The Nittany Lions will first face Northwestern, which beat UCLA eight days ago, at 3:30 p.m. on October 11 at Beaver Stadium. The game will be televised on FS1.
