Penn State Men’s Hockey Drops To No. 6 In USCHO Poll

Penn State men’s hockey split a two-game series over the weekend with unranked Clarkson, and despite several other highly ranked teams suffering similar fates, they took the biggest tumble of the bunch.

In the latest USCHO poll released on Monday afternoon, the men’s hockey team dropped two spots to No. 6, with Michigan (No. 4) and Denver (No. 5) leaping them following sweeps over the weekend, with Michigan making a big statement by sweeping then-No. 7 Providence. The Nittany Lions still received a singular first-place vote.

Boston University, which defeated Penn State in the Frozen Four last year, jumped to No. 1 after both Western Michigan (No. 2) and Michigan State (No. 3) lost to an unranked opponent at home. Penn State narrowly avoided dropping beneath No. 7 Maine by 15 points.

Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Minnesota (No. 13) fell one spot, Ohio State (No. 16) held serve, and Wisconsin (No. 17) jumped a spot. Notre Dame is the only school in the Big Ten not to receive a vote.

The men’s hockey team is back in action against non-conference foe Long Island on Friday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
