An Ode To Fall

A crisp autumn breeze has finally returned here in Happy Valley.

With it being way too hot out for far too long, it is nice to finally see the leaves changing into gold and crimson hues all around campus. We’ve definitely had a long and hot summer, and while it has been nice to bask in the sunshine, I have been anticipating fall’s arrival.

As someone who grew up five minutes away from one of the most touristy autumn hot spots in Pennsylvania (Jim Thorpe), I’ve grown to appreciate the beauty in the season from a young age. State College offers the same amount of colorful beauty on an even larger scale, with so much to do and see.

The cold weather gives the campus such a cozy feeling and reminds me of some of my favorite films that take place in the fall. This season is perfect for bundling up with a warm pumpkin spice latte, watching a spooky movie, or even cracking open a good book.

Morning walks to class have made me look at all of the gorgeous colors and falling leaves across campus. To me, stepping on a crisp leaf on the ground that makes the perfect crunch is one of the best feelings of autumn. It’s also fun to see all of the different decorations celebrating the season in some buildings – some people even have pumpkins out already.

I also have to recognize that the peak of fall is also one of the most stressful months of the year for any college student. This year, especially for Penn State students. With having to plan your halloweekend, terrible wifi, being busier than ever, and midterms, it’s a rough fall for all.

But honestly, that is no good reason not to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather! So go out to a pumpkin patch, sip on some apple cider, and embrace your inner Rory Gilmore.

Happy fall, folks!
