Report: Penn State Football Quarterback Drew Allar Undergoes Successful Surgery On Broken Left Ankle

Penn State football quarterback Drew Allar underwent successful surgery on his broken left ankle on Wednesday, according to ESPN insider Pete Thamel. He is expected to make a full recovery, and his timeline puts him on track to participate in Penn State’s Pro Day in the spring.
Allar suffered this season-ending injury during Penn State’s loss to Northwestern last week. This happened when he went down on a one-yard scramble on 3rd down during Penn State’s final drive of the game. He had to be carted off, and after the game, former Penn State head coach James Franklin announced in his post-game conference that Allar would be out for the season without specifying the true nature of the injury.
This was Allar’s final year of eligibility with Penn State, as he is ineligible for a medical redshirt. Allar will finish with 7,402 passing yards, 61 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions during his four seasons with the Nittany Lions. Penn State backup quarterback Ethan Grunkmeyer will be the starting quarterback for the blue and white for the remainder of the season.
Last season, Allar led the Nittany Lions to their first Big Ten championship game appearance since 2016 and their first College Football Playoff in history before falling short against Notre Dame in the semifinals.
