Penn State Men’s Hockey Slight Favorites Over Minnesota-Duluth In NCAA Tournament Regionals

Penn State men’s hockey is back in the NCAA Tournament.

After the Nittany Lions were placed in the Albany Regional as a No. 3 seed, they will take on the No. 2-seeded Minnesota-Duluth in the regional semifinal at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 27, at MVP Arena in Albany, New York. The winner will face the victor of No. 1-seeded Michigan’s matchup against No. 4-seeded Bentley.

Penn State will look to make it to its second consecutive Frozen Four after making its first-ever appearance last year. This will be the team’s fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and for the third time as a No. 3 seed.

The Nittany Lions opened as slight favorites with a puck line of -1.5 against the Bulldogs at +180, with the over/under listed at 6.5 goals, according to DraftKings. The money line is in favor of Penn State at -135, while Minnesota-Duluth is a +105 underdog.

Penn State finished the season with a record of 21-13-2 (12-10-2 Big Ten), while Minnesota-Duluth finished 23-14-1 (11-12-1 NCHC). The Bulldogs come into this game in better form than the Nittany Lions, having won three of their last four games. The Nittany Lions finished the season in the opposite direction, losing three of their last four games, including a loss to Michigan in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

While Charlie Cerrato and Braedon Ford are back for Penn State, it will continue to deal with injuries during the NCAA Tournament, as captain Dane Dowiak and Nick Fascia are out for the remainder of the season.

As we head into the NCAA Tournament, the Nittany Lions are +1600 to win their first National Championship. They trail Providence, Denver, Western Michigan, Michigan State, North Dakota, and Michigan, with the Wolverines being the favorite to win the title at +370.
