Penn State Men’s Hockey Rises To No. 5 In USCHO Poll

Penn State men’s hockey swept a two-game series over the weekend with unranked LIU and took advantage of some defeats ahead of them to move up the rankings.
In the latest USCHO poll released on Monday afternoon, the men’s hockey team leapt over Denver (No. 7) to come in at No. 5, again receiving a first place vote with a 5-1-0 record.
Michigan State jumped up to No. 1 after an impressive sweep of Boston University, who fell to No. 4, just 48 points ahead of Penn State. Western Michigan held serve at No. 2, and Michigan achieved a season-high ranking of No. 3. The closest team behind the Nittany Lions is No. 6 Quinnipiac, 83 points behind.
Penn State’s strength of schedule took a hit, as Arizona State fell out of the rankings after being swept by unranked Augustana. Clarkson only received one vote and LIU didn’t receive any. Minnesota Duluth joined the rankings at No. 18.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Minnesota (No. 12) jumped up a spot, Ohio State (No. 14) climbed two spots after splitting with No. 11 UConn. Wisconsin held serve at No. 17. Notre Dame once again did not receive a vote.
The men’s hockey team begins their final series of a multi-week homestand against Stonehill on Friday, October 24, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
