Penn State To Host Townhall On Research & Funding In Wake Of Federal Shutdown

Penn State will host a town hall focused on its research enterprise and the federal funding landscape at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 3, in room 603 of the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub. The event will also be livestreamed via Microsoft Teams.
The discussion will feature talks from Senior Vice President for Research Andrew Read, Executive Vice President and Provost Fotis Sotiropoulos, and Assistant Vice President for Federal Relations Amanda Wintersteen. University leaders are expected to address the current federal funding outlook amid the government shutdown, recent policy changes, and how potential shifts could affect Penn State’s research operations.
“The federal funding landscape is shifting, and that has real implications for how Penn State and other research institutions plan for the future,” Read said in the release. “This town hall is an opportunity to talk openly about those changes and how we’re positioning ourselves to adapt.”
Sotiropoulos added that Penn State’s research community “continues to make an impact across disciplines and across the world,” stating that the university remains committed to maintaining that momentum even amid an evolving policy environment.
Attendees can participate in person or virtually and will have the opportunity to ask questions during the session or submit them in advance.
