Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Nine Roundup

Penn State football continued its disappointing season with a loss to Ohio State, but the Nittany Lions in the NFL can still give fans something to be excited about.

In case you missed it, here’s how Penn State alums performed in week nine.

Odafe Oweh, Los Angeles Chargers

Pass rusher Odafe Oweh continues to find success in Los Angeles, recording three tackles, including two sacks, as the Chargers defeated the Titans 27-20.

Oweh has four sacks in four games since being traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Chargers. He did not have a single sack in five games with the Ravens.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars

Parker Washington caught eight passes for 90 yards as the Jacksonville Jaguars snuck out a 30-29 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The wide receiver led his team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.

Washington is taking a bigger role in the Jaguars’ offense this season, with 297 receiving yards in just eight games. He had just 390 yards in the entire 2024-25 season.

Theo Johnson, New York Giants

Tight end Theo Johnson continued his stellar sophomore season, catching three passes for 27 yards and a touchdown in the Giants’ 34-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Johnson already has five touchdowns this season after only scoring once during his rookie campaign. The 2023 graduate is developing a clear connection with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Joey Porter Jr., Pittsburgh Steelers

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was a star on defense as the Steelers defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 27-20. The 2022 graduate recorded eight tackles, defended four passes, made a sack, and had an interception.

The sack was the first of Porter’s NFL career. He also had one sack in his time at Penn State.

Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts

Tight end Tyler Warren continued to be one of quarterback Daniel Jones’ favorite targets, catching five passes for 26 yards in the Colts’ 27-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

26 yards is the least that Warren has had in a single game during his impressive rookie season.

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pat Freiermuth had three receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers’ 27-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Freiermuth’s stats were identical to fellow Nittany Lion tight end Theo Johnson.

Micah Parsons, Green Bay Packers

Pass rusher Micah Parsons continued his below-average season with his new team in Green Bay. Parsons made three tackles, including one tackle for loss, in the Packers’ 16-13 upset loss to the Carolina Panthers.

This marks Parsons’ third game this season without a sack. The Packers will be looking for Parsons, the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league, to improve his numbers in the second half of the season.

Nick Scott, Carolina Panthers

Nick Scott was an important contributor in the Carolina Panthers’ 16-13 win over the Green Bay Packers. The defensive back made three tackles, including one solo, and recovered a fumble to help the Panthers complete the upset.

After not accomplishing much in his first six NFL seasons, the 2018 graduate appears to be finding his place in the Panthers’ defense.

Abdul Carter, New York Giants

Pass rusher Abdul Carter continued his disappointing rookie campaign, only recording one tackle in the Giants’ 34-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

At the time of writing, Carter remains the favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year despite only having half a sack on the season.

Other Notable Performances:

  • Chop Robinson recorded one tackle before leaving the Dolphins’ Thursday night game against the Ravens with a concussion. His status is questionable for a week 10 matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
  • Jaquan Brisker recorded six total tackles for the Chicago Bears in their win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • Arnold Ebiketie made three tackles, including one tackle for loss, in the Atlanta Falcons’ 24-23 loss to the New England Patriots.
  • Ji’Ayir Brown recorded 4 tackles, three of which were solo tackles, to help the 49ers secure a 34-24 win over the New York Giants.
  • Kevin Winston Jr. made a pair of tackles, including one solo, in the Tennessee Titans’ 27-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
  • Mitchell Tinsley caught one pass for 27 yards in the Bengals’ loss to the Chicago Bears.
