Penn State Football Heavy Underdogs Against Indiana In Week 11

History in the making.

For the first time since 2013, Penn State football will play a game at Beaver Stadium without James Franklin at the helm when it takes on No. 2 Indiana at noon on Saturday, November 8. Interim head coach Terry Smith will coach in his first home game after two road games since taking over the reins for the Nittany Lions.

After losing its fifth consecutive game against No. 1 Ohio State, Penn State football is facing its largest underdog spread at home since 2016. Ethan Grunkemeyer is set to make his first home start for the Nittany Lions since Drew Allar’s season-ending injury.

The opening line against Indiana has been set at -14.5 points in the Hoosiers’ favor, with the over/under listed at 48.5 points, according to DraftKings. The moneyline is in favor of Indiana at -650. Penn State sits at +470. This is the second straight game this season in which Penn State is a 10-point or more underdog.

The Nittany Lions have yet to cover the spread at home, currently sitting at 1-7 against the spread, with their only cover coming against Iowa. They will look to avoid losing six straight games for the first time since 2004 and having to win their final three games of the regular season to clinch a bowl game.

It’s worth noting that the last time Penn State was a 10-point or more home underdog came against Ohio State in 2016, where it caused one of the greatest upsets in Penn State history. Despite losing to Ohio State by 24 points last week, Penn State played well in the first half of this game, before Ohio State blew it out in the second half.

As for Indiana, it is 6-3 against the spread this season. The Hoosiers are 4-2 against the spread in their last 6 games against Penn State, according to OddsShark. However, they have never beaten the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium. Penn State holds a 25-2 record against Indiana since 1993.

After facing the No. 1 defense in the country last week, the Nittany Lions now have to face the No. 1-ranked offense that has averaged a total of 46.44 points this season, according to OddsShark. The Hoosiers have a huge opportunity to finally win their first game at Beaver Stadium. Expect them to win this game, but Penn State has a legitimate shot at keeping this close and causing an upset scare for Indiana.
