Penn State Men’s Hockey Falls To No. 5 In USCHO Poll

Penn State men’s hockey was swept in a two-game series over the weekend with No. 1 Michigan State, picking up just one point via an overtime loss on Friday. The Nittany Lions dropped in the rankings as a result.

In the latest USCHO poll released on Monday, the men’s hockey team fell two spots to come in at No. 5, failing to receive a first-place vote for the first time this season with a 9-3-0 record.

After its impressive performance against the Nittany Lions this past weekend, Michigan State is now the unanimous No. 1 team in the country. Michigan remained at No. 2 after splitting with No. 7 Wisconsin.

Minnesota-Duluth leapt the Nittany Lions to come in at No. 3 and Denver jumped five spots to get up to No. 4. Penn State is seven points behind Denver and 37 points ahead of No. 6 North Dakota.

Only four teams in the Big Ten are ranked, with all four being in the top seven. Ohio State fell out of the rankings and is the first team out, while Minnesota joins Notre Dame with zero votes received.

The men’s hockey team returns home to Pegula Ice Arena to face No. 2 Michigan at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 14. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
