[Photo Story] Penn State Men’s & Women’s Basketball Kick Off The Season Strong

With three wins this week, Penn State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams started their seasons out strong. Men’s basketball faced Fairfield at the Bryce Jordan Center, while the Lady Lions took on Bucknell and Cincinnati at Rec Hall.

We’ve compiled the best photos from each game to capture the energy, emotion, and intensity of these matches.

Monday, November 3

Starting the day, our Lady Lions defeated Bucknell 83-55. The first two quarters were close, but by the third, the Lady Lions pulled ahead 62–46. The freshman duo of Rachael Okokoh and Shayla Smith extended the lead to 22 points with just under three minutes to play.

Later that night, with another intense matchup, our men’s team fought most of the game in a back-and-forth battle. We saw 13 lead changes and 12 tied scores. Freshman Tibor Mirtič closed the game out strong, securing a 76–68 win.

Both teams started their seasons with exciting victories and plenty of cheers around the stadiums.

Friday, November 7

To wrap up the week, the Lady Lions secured a hard-fought 82–77 victory over Cincinnati.

Penn State started with a 6–0 lead to open the game. The second, third, and fourth quarters turned into constant scoring runs from both sides. The Bearcats added a 3-pointer, but none of their four final shots went in, and Penn State escaped with the 82-77 win.
