THON Director Thursday: Meet THON 2026 Merchandise Director Reese Butler

Name: Reese Butler

Major: Human development and family studies

Previous THON Experience:

THON 2024: OPPerations Committee Member

THON 2025: Special Event Sales Captain on the Merchandise Committee

What made you want to apply for a director position for THON 2026?

I knew I wanted to give more back to the organization that has given me so much, and I wanted to be in a position where I could help guide meaningful discussions and decisions that influence the long-term growth of the organization.

What are your responsibilities as a THON Director?

As the Merchandise Director, I oversee the year-round operations of the THON Store, uphold the integrity of THON’s brand and trademarks, maintain vendor relationships, and work to maximize our profits so that 96 cents of every dollar can be donated to Four Diamonds.

What do you want to implement in your position this year that differs from years past?

One of my goals this year is to strengthen and expand our vendor relationships to create merchandise that aligns with current trends, while further increasing our reach on a global scale.

What makes your committee so cool, fun, and/or important?

What makes the Merchandise Committee unique is that our operations run year-round as we staff the THON Store, and the merchandise we create and sell has a direct impact on THON’s yearly total.

What are the overall goals you hope to reach with your committee for THON 2026?

My overall goals for the Merchandise Committee are to maximize the THON Store’s profits to ensure 96 cents of every dollar is donated to Four Diamonds, create merchandise that reflects and celebrates the THON community worldwide, and foster an environment where volunteers feel supported and can recognize the impact they have on the organization and the families we serve.

Why do you THON?

I continue to THON for the children and families I have seen affected by a childhood cancer diagnosis, and I want to ensure no family has to face those challenges alone. The work we do in THON has a global impact, and I know that not only are we supporting Four Diamonds families, but we are also supporting children all around the world.

What’s your favorite THON memory?

My favorite THON memory was right before the total reveal with my co-captains for THON 2025, when the THON Store’s impact numbers were displayed.

Per Onward State tradition, if you could be any dinosaur, which one would you be and why?

An Apatosaurus because they are peaceful and spend their time taking care of their families.
