Penn State Football’s Kaytron Allen On Verge Of History After Career Day Against Michigan State

It’s been the year of Kaytron Allen, folks.

Allen’s incredible season reached a new peak on Saturday against Michigan State when the running back took over with a career-high 181 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 25 attempts.

Allen averaged 7.2 yards per carry, with his longest rush coming late in the fourth quarter, where he went 49 yards before being tackled from behind. The Nittany Lion would go on to score on the very next play with a 26-yard scamper to the end zone, effectively putting the game to bed and solidifying the first win for Penn State since mid-September.

As a team, the Nittany Lions were dominant on the ground. As an offense, Penn State had 240 yards on 50 carries, although largely due to Allen’s performance, the offensive line stepped up to be the difference down the stretch for the Nittany Lions.

“Just trusting the boys up front. I couldn’t do it without them, so I appreciate those boys a lot for helping me do this,” Singleton said postgame.

It’s been a long season for the Penn State football team. To start the season No. 2 in the country and then fall into a six-game losing streak, all to conference opponents. The Nittany Lions would not be in this position to win without Allen and the fantastic season he has put together.

This season, Allen has 917 rushing yards on 163 touches for a season average of 5.6 yards per carry. His performance against the Spartans did more than enough to inch the running back closer to the record books for a Penn State running back.

Allen maintains a third position on the all-time career rushing yards for a Penn State running back behind Saquon Barkley and Evan Royster. Allen currently sits at 3,794 career rushing yards, which stands 49 yards short of Barkley’s 3,843 yards and 138 yards short of Evan Roster’s record of 3,932.

Allen’s performance against Michigan State added to his season total, bumping over 900 yards, which surpasses his season totals of 867 yards in 2022 and 902 yards in 2023. His current average of 5.6 yards per carry would finish as the best of his career.

Additionally, his two touchdowns against the Spartans marked the first time Allen surpassed 10 rushing touchdowns in a season. Allen now sits tied No. 4 in Penn State’s all-time career rushing touchdowns list with 36. His teammate, Nick Singleton, stands at No. 2 with only two touchdowns left to catch Saquon Barkley’s 43 mark.

Allen is also just one rushing touchdown shy of being tied for the 10th most rushing touchdowns in a season in Penn State history.
