Penn State Women’s Volleyball Stays At No. 24 In Latest AVCA Poll

Penn State women’s volleyball stayed at No. 24 in the latest AVCA poll released on Monday afternoon. This extended the Nittany Lions’ consecutive week streak of being ranked to 563; the last time they weren’t ranked was in the final poll of the 1988 season.
Despite being swept by Minnesota on Friday, Penn State kept its ranked streak alive with a five-set win over Ohio State on Sunday at Rec Hall. It has won two of its last three matches after a three-match losing streak.
Despite staying as No. 24 in this week’s poll, the Nittany Lions received 88 votes, 55 fewer votes than last week. However, they received six more votes than No. 25 BYU and remained ranked by gaining 38 more votes than their unranked closest opponent, Western Kentucky. Along with Penn State and No. 1 Nebraska, the Big Ten was also represented by No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 11 Purdue, No. 16 USC, No. 17 Indiana, and No. 19 Minnesota.
Penn State is now 15-11 and 9-7 in Big Ten play, with four more regular-season matches before the NCAA Tournament begins. Head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s team will play its final two home games of the regular season this weekend when it takes on Michigan State at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 21. Penn State will also take on Maryland at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, at Rec Hall before it hits the road to finish its regular season.
