Report: Former Penn State Football Staffers Following James Franklin To Virginia Tech

In case you missed it, former Penn State head football coach James Franklin is set to become the next head coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies.

After 12 years with the Nittany Lions, Franklin’s departure inevitably meant some changes to the coaching staff. Associate Athletic Director – Chief of Staff Kevin Threlkel and General Manager of Personnel and Recruitment Andy Frank are no longer listed on the athletics staff directory, as reported by BWI’s Sean Fritz. The two staff members will not finish out the regular season with the Nittany Lions as they join Franklin in Blacksburg.

Threlkel worked with Franklin at Kansas State, Maryland, and Vanderbilt before following the former coach to Happy Valley. According to the Penn State Athletics page, “Threlkel’s primary responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the football program and its administrative staff, oversight of the football budget, and handling all football contracts.” He also served as the team’s liaison to the athletic and university administration.

Frank also followed Franklin from Vanderbilt, mostly dealing with being the overseer of all aspects of the program’s recruiting department, according to the Penn State Athletics page.

Threlkel and Frank are not the only current staff members who won’t finish the season with Penn State. Brett Arnold (Assistant Director of Player Relations), Chris Mahon (Recruiting Coordinator for Personnel), Rashad Erby (Assistant Recruiting Coordinator for Personnel), and Aeneas Hawkins (Assistant Director of Player Advancement & Revenue Sharing Strategy) are all no longer on the Penn State Athletics directory.
