James Franklin’s Virginia Tech Contract Details Released

James Franklin’s contract with Virginia Tech is a five-year deal worth $41.75 million, the school announced Friday afternoon. The school also approved an increase in staff salary pool to $15.5 million, a stark increase of almost $7 million. For incentive details, folks can view Franklin’s full term sheet here.

Virginia Tech hired Franklin as its new head coach on Monday. Penn State negotiated Franklin’s buyout down to $9 million, which adds up with the total of his new contract. Several Penn State staffers are no longer listed on Penn State’s directory, signaling their decision to follow Franklin to Blacksburg, Virginia.

Franklin is now on his third stop as head coach after stints at Vanderbilt and Penn State. He signed a 10-year, $75 million contract extension to stick with the Nittany Lions in 2021. He was fired on October 12 after a 3-3 start to the season.
