Penn State Football Running Back Kaytron Allen Named East-West Shrine Bowl Offensive Player Of The Week

Penn State football running back Kaytron Allen was named the East-West Shrine Bowl Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Nebraska on Saturday.

Allen became Penn State’s all-time leading rusher after running for 160 yards and two touchdowns against the Cornhuskers. He surpassed Evan Royster for the record on a 3-yard dash in the fourth quarter.

“Tonight, we witnessed greatness. Kaytron Allen. Penn State’s been playing football for an awful long time. And to be the No. 1 rusher in the history of this place, it is an impressive thing,” Terry Smith said postgame.

Allen’s had as good a season as any running back in college football and has dominated the position since Smith took over as interim head coach. His carries have increased dramatically over the last few weeks. Allen sits at 1,077 yards and 14 touchdowns on 188 attempts, good for 5.7 yards per run.

Defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton took home the East-West Shrine Bowl Breakout Defensive Player of the Week title for his performance against Michigan State a week ago.
