Penn State Football Heavy Favorites Over Rutgers In Week 14

It all comes down to this, folks.

After keeping its bowl eligibility alive with a dominant win over Nebraska last week, Penn State football will play its final game of the regular season against Rutgers at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, at SHI Stadium.

The Nittany Lions are double-digit favorites heading into the regular-season finale for the first time in the Terry Smith era. The opening line against Rutgers is set at -13.5 points in the Nittany Lions’ favor, with the over/under listed at 56.5 points, according to DraftKings. The moneyline favors Penn State at -520, with Rutgers sitting at +390.

Due to both teams’ 5-6 records, bowl eligibility is on the line in this game. The winner will clinch a bowl game, while the loser will be eliminated from bowl contention through a .500 record. The last time Penn State missed out on a bowl game was in 2020, when it opted out.

Not only did Penn State keep its bowl eligibility alive with its second straight win, but it also covered the spread for the third consecutive week. The Nittany Lions are now 4-7 against the spread, with all their covers coming since Smith took over as the head coach.

The Nittany Lions are playing their best brand of football this season at the right time. Not only have they won two games in a row, but they have also done it in dominant fashion. Their defense has held both Michigan State and Nebraska to 10 points each. Along with that, the offense has scored 65 points combined, with Kaytron Allen leading the way. They have a lot of momentum on their side heading into this matchup.

As for Rutgers, just like its record, it is 5-6 against the spread. It has lost its last 5 games when playing at home against Penn State, and the Nittany Lions have won the last 10 meetings, according to OddsShark.

Just like the Nittany Lions, the Scarlet Knights started the season 3-0 before losing six of their last eight games. Despite that, they have taken advantage of their home-field, as four of their five wins this season have come at home. Rutgers was also blown out by Ohio State last week, so the Scarlet Knights are coming into this game with something to prove.
