Three Penn State Women’s Volleyball Players Earn All-Big Ten Honors

Three Penn State womenโs volleyball players earned All-Big Ten honors by the Big Ten, the conference announced on Tuesday. Kennedy Martin, Gillian Grimes, and Maggie Mendelson were all named to All-Big Ten teams.
Grimes and Martin were both named first-team All-Big Ten. Grimes led Penn State’s defense with 3.68 digs per set and withย 1,615 career digs in her four years with the Nittany Lions. She ranks fourth in program history in career digs. Along with earning a spot on the first team, she was named Big Ten Libero of the Year by the conference.
As for Martin, she led the Nittany Lions and the Big Ten in kills with 596. She was second in the nation in points per set with 6.22 and kills per set with 5.42. She had double-digit kills in every match in which she played at least three sets. During the regular season, she was named Big Ten Player of the Week three times and AVCA National Player of the Week once.
Mendelson was named second-team All-Big Ten. During the regular season, she had a hitting percentage of .374 with 2.24 kills per set and 0.87 blocks per set. She had 10 matches with double-digit kills and eight matches with five or more blocks.
Penn State will begin its bid to repeat as national champions as a No. 8-seed when it takes on USF at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5, at Gregory Gymnasium, located in Austin, Texas. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
