Report: Penn State Football To Hire Cincinnati Defensive Coordinator Tyson Veidt As Linebackers Coach, Retaining Dan Connor As Assistant

Matt Campbell continues to fill out his coaching staff.
Penn State football is reportedly hiring Cincinnati defensive coordinator Tyson Veidt as the team’s linebackers coach under defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, per Keegan Nickoson of 247Sports.
Veidt got his start in Division I coaching as a graduate assistant at Indiana in 1999 before returning to his alma mater, Muskigum, as defensive coordinator in 2000. After a later stint as a graduate assistant at West Virginia and another defensive coordinator gig in Division III, he was hired as head coach of Division III Blufton in 2008, going a measly 20-40 in five seasons.
He joined Campbell’s coaching staff at Toledo as his linebackers coach in 2014, spending two years in the role before following Campbell to Iowa State and gaining the role of assistant head coach.
At Iowa State, Veidt was a Broyles Award nominee and was named Linebackers Coach of the Year in 2017 by FootballScoop after coaching converted quarterback Joel Lanning into a first-team All-American in his first year playing the position. He also coached a second All-American, Mike Rose, in 2020.
After spending a decade coaching under Campbell, he was hired to become Cincinnati’s defensive coordinator in 2024, serving in that role before mutually parting ways this offseason.
Incumbent linebackers coach and alumnus Dan Connor’s future was not clear in the immediate aftermath of the reported hiring, but Mark Brennan of 247Sports is reporting that Connor will remain on staff as the assistant linebackers coach, returning to the role he held in 2024 under Tom Allen.
