Former Iowa State Tight End Gabe Burkle Transfers To Penn State Football

Matt Campbell continues to bring players from Iowa State to Happy Valley.
Three-star senior tight end Gabe Burkle is transferring to Penn State, he announced on X on Sunday. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Burkle initially committed to Iowa State as a member of the Class of 2022. He was a three-star recruit out of Cedar Rapids, ranked as the No. 65 tight end recruit and No. 9 player from Iowa, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He chose the Cyclones over Nebraska, Indiana, and Kansas State, committing in June 2021.
Burkle, who measures as 6’6″, 255 pounds, played just two games as a true freshman, taking a redshirt. He played more in 2023, primarily as a blocker and special teams player, catching just two passes. In the last two seasons, however, he’s made 52 total catches for 598 yards and two touchdowns, playing alongside Benjamin Brahmer, who’s also transferring to Penn State.
Burkle and Brahmer will join a Penn State tight end room that will have a lot of moving parts. While Andrew Rappleyea, Finn Furmanek, and Brian Kortovich announced their intentions of staying, four scholarship tight ends will transfer, including Luke Reynolds and former five-star recruit Andrew Olesh. Senior Khalil Dinkins has also declared for the NFL Draft.
Burkle is the fourth player to formally announce their intentions to transfer to Penn State, joining Iowa State teammates Brahmer, offensive lineman Will Tompkins, and safety Marcus Neal Jr.
