Report: Former Penn State Football Offensive Lineman Alex Birchmeier Transfers To Liberty

Former Penn State football offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier has signed with Liberty, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Birchmeier appeared in 26 total games over the last two seasons for the Nittany Lions. He played in all 16 in 2024, mostly in a special teams capacity. He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

As a recruit, the 6’5″, 304-pound run protector was ranked as the No. 1 player in Virginia, No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the class of 2023, and No. 54 player in the nation, per 247Sports’ Composite rankings.

Birchmeier is the fifth Nittany Lion to find a new home in the transfer portal, joining Ethan Grunkemeyer, Kaylen Harvey, Matt Henderson, and Elliot Washington II.
