Former Penn State Football Tight End Joey Schlaffer Transfers To Temple

Former Penn State football tight end Joey Schlaffer is transferring to Temple, per the Temple football X account. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Schlaffer was a four-star recruit out of Exeter Township High School in the Class of 2023, being the No. 17 tight end and No. 6 player from Pennsylvania, according to the 247Sports Composite. He received various offers early in his recruitment, but committed to Penn State in October 2021, shortly after receiving an offer.

He redshirted his true freshman season before appearing in four games in 2024, mostly on special teams as he sat behind several talented tight ends, including Theo Johnson, Tyler Warren, Luke Reynolds, and Khalil Dinkins. He made the first catch of his collegiate career against Villanova in September, scoring a 19-yard touchdown from Ethan Grunkemeyer.

After the firing of James Franklin in October, Schlaffer was the first player to depart the program. While no other player formally departed the program prior to the regular season finale against Rutgers, the Reading native was removed from the roster on November 5, between the team’s losses to No. 2 Indiana and No. 1 Ohio State.
