Penn State Field Hockey Adds Mark Wadsley As Associate Head Coach

Penn State field hockey head coach Hannah Prince officially rounded out her inaugural coaching staff this week with the addition of Mark Wadsley as associate head coach.

Wadsley follows Prince to Happy Valley after a highly successful three-year run at Saint Joseph’s, where the duo helped turn the Hawks into a national powerhouse. During his first season in Philadelphia, Wadsley assisted in guiding Saint Joseph’s to its third straight Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament titles, along with another NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Hawks’ historic 2024 campaign marked the high point of Wadsley’s tenure. Saint Joseph’s climbed to a program-best No. 3 national ranking and advanced to what would become the university’s first-ever NCAA national championship game appearance. Along the way, the Hawks captured their fourth consecutive A-10 title sweep, earned their first NCAA Tournament win, knocked off perennial powers Princeton and North Carolina, and made the program’s first Final Four. The coaching staff was recognized as the NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year following the season.

Saint Joseph’s sustained that momentum in 2025, claiming a fifth straight A-10 tournament title and another NCAA Tournament berth. The Hawks opened postseason play with a win over Drexel before falling to North Carolina in the second round. Individually, Wadsley also helped develop standout forward Manu Ghigliotti, who earned regional Player of the Year honors and multiple First Team All-America selections.

Before arriving in the United States, Wadsley served as Head of Performance at England’s Repton Hockey Club. He also led Repton’s women’s indoor and outdoor teams, highlighted by a national Indoor Premier League championship.

Wadsley brings extensive playing experience as well, having made 245 appearances for Beeston Hockey Club and winning eight domestic trophies with the Bees. A native of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, Wadsley holds academic degrees from both the University of Birmingham and the University of Stirling.

With Wadsley joining Prince’s staff, Penn State adds a proven winner with international experience as the Nittany Lions enter a new era for the program after the recent departure of former coach Lisa Bervinchak Love.
