Penn State Wrestling Remains At No. 1, Holds Six Atop Individual Weight Classes In National Polls

Another week, another Penn State dual victory, folks.
After defeating their toughest opponent to date this season, the Nittany Lions improved to 12-0 (6-0 Big Ten) on the season. In a one-sided 26-12 dual match against No. 5 Nebraska, Penn State wrestling now sits with 83 consecutive dual victories.
Penn State was ranked as the No. 1 team in the country once again, according to the NWCA coaches poll, gathering 15 of the 16 available first-place votes. No. 2 Ohio State scrounged up the rest as the Buckeyes improved to 16-0 (5-0 Big Ten) after defeating No. 15 Wisconsin 30-10 and No. 10 Michigan 26-16 this past weekend.
As for Intermat’s individual rankings, there was very little movement.
True freshman PJ Duke suffered his first collegiate loss on Friday night, a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to defending national champion and now No. 3-ranked Antrell Taylor. Although the match was marred by some controversy, with a possible missed takedown from Duke and Taylor’s reluctance to take offensive approaches, the Nittany Lions’ winning streak was halted in the rideout tiebreakers at the Bryce Jordan Center, ultimately dropping Duke to No. 4 in the country at 157 pounds.
Luke Lilledahl, Shayne Van Ness, Mitchell Mesenbrink, Levi Haines, Rocco Welsh, and Josh Barr all remain at their respective No. 1 rankings.
Marcus Blaze remains at No. 4 at 133 pounds, while Braeden Davis and Cole Mirasola stay at No. 12 at 141 pounds and heavyweight.
Penn State wrestling will be back in action on Friday, February 6, at 6 p.m. when the Nittany Lions travel to Ann Arbor to face the No. 10-ranked Michigan Wolverines.
