Penn State Student Remains In Critical Condition After Downtown Hit-And-Run

A Penn State student critically injured in an early Saturday morning hit-and-run crash in downtown State College remains on life support and is expected to stay in intensive care for at least a month, according to a fundraiser created by her family.

Sophia Ruscillo, a 20-year-old student from New York, was struck by a vehicle around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Beaver Avenue and South Garner Street while walking through the area.

She was initially taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center before being transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where she remains unconscious. According to the GoFundMe page, Ruscillo suffered a collapsed lung, a skull fracture, and a brain bleed. Her family hopes to move her to a hospital closer to home as her condition stabilizes.

The fundraiser launched Monday and had raised more than $38,000 as of Wednesday morning to help cover medical expenses and support her family.

Police said the driver fled the scene following the crash. Officers later located the vehicle and arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the incident. His identity has not been released, and no charges have been filed as of Wednesday. The crash remains under investigation, and police reported no additional updates.
