An Ode To The Dancer Stretcher

Greetings from the floor.

While many folks continue to fill the stands of the Bryce Jordan Center For the Kids, I am currently spending my weekend at ground level, dancing for the duration of THON Weekend.

Over the course of the past 30-ish hours, there has been one thing in particular that has kept my body in check physically. So much so that I felt the need to write this story on-site, and on my feet.

Located in the Dancer Storage Area is a marvel of engineering that I coined the “Dancer Stretcher.” Comprised of five wooden planks and a PVC pipe, this feat of modern architecture can do it all.

At first glance, one might think that using the lower beam for a simple hamstring stretch is the primary function of the structure. And while that has come in handy plenty of times, the secret to this bad boy lies in the pipe on top.

If you are able to muster the flexibility to sling your leg over the roughly three-foot-high tube, you will experience a feeling of pain relief unlike any other. The sensation of weightlessness that can be achieved simply by resting the back side of the kneecap on it is truly indescribable.

Being able to use a device to stretch and immediately alleviate muscle fatigue is something only the masterminds behind THON could develop.

So as I sit here doing just that, I want to express my sincerest gratitude. Thank you, Dancer Stretcher. Here’s to the next 16.
