By now, we are well aware there are a plethora of things that occur during THON. This ranges from live music, performances, and games for all. While it is common for THON to do similar things every year, what if we were to switch it up?

From ideas that most likely won’t happen, to things that should happen, we’ve covered some good ones.

Here are some special things that you might see in THON in the coming years. (Maybe).

1. Bouncy Houses

While this doesn’t need much explanation, I think most college students would agree that a bouncy house incorporated into THON would be awesome. Now, the specifics, we’re not sure about. This bouncy house could be for THON children specifically, or it could be for our THON dancers. What we know for sure is that we need some people jumping in the BJC.

2. Disco Dance Floor

Nobody can convince us otherwise. A big dance floor in the middle of the BJC made just for our dancers. Not only would this be a cool touch, but it might also push our dancers to keep on dancing! A pop of colors on the ground would also be so special for our THON children, bringing the magic of THON to life.

3. Each Organization Performs

There are so many groups and clubs that perform at THON, but how fun would it be for every organization standing to perform? This doesn’t have to be anything crazy, but it would be a fun way to recognize all the organizations standing for THON. This could be a performance of singing, dancing, acting, etc. The possibilities might just be endless.

4. Photobooths

We think this would be a unique touch to a philanthropy event like THON. So many people love photobooths, and with today’s technology, it becomes easier for everybody! It would be so nice to have a little photo strip of moments caught in the photobooth during THON. Friends and families will have the opportunity to take a little snippet of THON home with them, or electronically to keep forever.

5. Emotional Support Animals

This is something not very common among events like THON, but we know students would love to be able to interact with ESA animals through their THON journey. Emotional support animals are a great touch in comforting our dancers through their THON experience and making it overall a little brighter. There is something awesome about being able to connect with animals through an event like THON.

6. Merch Cannon

Penn State is not unfamiliar to cannons that shoot merch, so this is a great idea for THON. Merchandise from THON is a great keepsake from an event that is so special and is a great way to spread awareness about what THON is. This is a unique way to keep organizations involved and give dancers something fun and different to do. This is often done at events like pep rallies, but what better place to do it than THON?

7. Tug Of War/Hula Hooping

Something different to see in THON might be something like “field day” games, like some people used to do in elementary school. Signature games like “Tug of War” and hula hooping would be fun to take college students back to their childhood. These games can be friendly, and keep dancers occupied throughout their stand. This can also be something incorporated on stage for a smaller, more controlled number of people participating.
