Penn State Softball’s Allison Oneacre Secures Second Consecutive Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

Penn State softball cleaned up another successful weekend, collecting wins in all five games played at the SpaceU Classic in Orlando, Florida. Leading the charge for the Nittany Lions was Allison Oneacre, a rookie from Alpharetta, Georgia, who earned her second consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Oneacre turned in an 11-RBI performance this weekend, batting .418 over the course of five games. Setting the tone on Friday, the Georgia native notched four hits in five at-bats with a pair of doubles. Friday night, she helped the Nittany Lions to a 6-5 upset-win against No. 25 UCF by reaching base twice via base on balls.

Oneacre collected three more hits in three blowout wins for Penn State, which included a tone-setting, first-inning home run against Notre Dame. In her remaining at-bats, she was walked twice with bases loaded.

The freshman infielder ranks second and sixth nationally in total RBIs with 27, and fourth and fourteenth nationally in home runs with seven. Her dominance at the plate is not only reflected in home runs, but also in walks. Oneacre leads Penn State with an on-base percentage of .541, and averages a walk per game — good for third in the Big Ten.

Her achievement marks the first time in program history that a player has won consecutive weekly honors. Oneacre also became the second Nittany Lion to win multiple Freshman of the Week awards, following the footsteps of current junior right-handed pitcher Bridget Nemeth.

Penn State softball returns to play this weekend against N.C. Central, Tennessee, and Appalachian State in the Tennessee Invitational. First pitch for Friday’s game against N.C. Central is set for 12:30 p.m.
